Well, I got the job. If I were the sort of person to squeal only dogs would be able to hear me by now. I'm obviously thrilled at the prospect of going back to work, to a job I seriously want (and which involves working with a rather cute micro-biologist) but I'm also terrified at the same time. I've never worked in a lab before and while I'm looking forward to it, I'm also afraid I'm gonna screw up and lose my dream job. I know I'm just scared over nothing and it will probably go fine but still. Add on to that the prospect of leaving Krys at nursery all day and the general stresses (both financial and mental) of moving from the dole back into work, I'm rather tense (and probably will be right up until I start on the 7th of June).

Some might say that I can't really comment on this sort of thing since I had my son at 17, but it's things like this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4572219.stm that really make me wonder about the state of things.
Yeah I stand by my decision to have a child at 17 and I don't regret it because I love Krys so much I couldn't live without him, but it's not something I recommend. I've always believed that I should deal with the consequences of my own actions and getting pregnant was one of them and I've suffered because of my actions (I've missed out on going to uni and going out as much as I used to), but at the end of the day if I had the chance to change it I wouldn't. People may look down on me and judge me as irresponsible because of it (I was, I admit it. But I don't look for excuses or other people to blame, I just get on with it) but so what? This is my life, I know the same could be said for those girls but there has to be a limit on the age a person can have child and I think in all honesty it should be at least older than 16. I was terrified as a pregnant 17 year old and it took me a long time to adapt to being a mother, I'd hate to imagine what it's like at 12. I'm not a perfect mother (who is?) but I love my son and I intend to bring him up to the best of my ability and I like to think that that's going to be pretty damn good, after all I had a good example from my folks.

Your Birthdate: March 24 |
Born on the 24th, you have a greater capacity for responsibility and helping others than your may have realized.
You may also become the mediator and peacemaker in inharmonious situations.
Devoted to family, you tend to manage and protect.
This birth date adds to the emotional nature and perhaps to the sensitivities.

I'm quite happy at the minute and also absolutely terrified. On Tuesday I have my first job interview (with an actual company) in over a year and I must say I want this job so badly. It's working as a Laboratory Technician, it's well paid, close to home and generally sounds perfect. I'm also quite surprised thay got back to me so quickly (sent application on Thursday last week, they phoned me on Friday to offer me an interview), either I made a really good impression with my app or they're desperate to get someone in ;). Either way if I get the job I don't care.

While updating my 50 book challenge (yeah that thing again) I became aware of the fact that all of the books I have read/re-read in the last month have all been fiction (well, with the exception of What is Goth? which isn't really fiction). Must start reading some non-fiction. It's not that I don't read non-fiction, I love books on science, history, psychology, mythology and many other genres but the truth is that the vasy majority of non-fiction I read are either cookery books (in particular sushi) or art books and I don't really sit down to read them as such.

I had a good weekend in Sheffield, Rome Burns were amazing, and I think the new bassist really adds another level to the live act. Some not so good shit happened while I was up there but I'm not one to dwell on things I can't change.
On another note my 50 book challenge is going well, I've read 8 new books so far (currently about a hundred pages from finishing my ninth) and I'm aiming to have read 10 by the end of the first month (which is around the 15th I think).
I'm off to fill in another application for a lab job.
N.B. Bugger! I've got until the 14th (A.K.A. TOMORROW) to read my 10th book. Double bugger since I picked one tat's about 500 pages long.

- Batfink tonight!
- See Rome Burns tomorrow at the corporation.
- Head back down to Wolves on Sunday (god I hate having to travel on a Sunday but need must).
- Homeward bound on Monday/Tuesday depending on when Damo wants to relinquish Krys for another week.
Must remember to take:
- Pengie (I can't forget that thing or I'll be making a quick return visit to pick it up).

Must stop buying so many books. Due to the constraints of having to share my (tiny) bedroom at my folks's place with my son, half my book collection is currently residing in my mum and dad's room. And what do I go and do? Order another 5 off of amazon, to go on top of the 2 I bought off ebay last week (The Five of Cups by Caitlin R Kiernan and the 10th anniverary edition of Lost Souls, which I only bought for the free chap book, oops).

After a night of practicing (on everything from song lyrics in my head, an old interview with Poppy Z Brite in Cemetery Dance and a conversation I was having with my mum) I've discovered that my typing speed can vary as widely as between 25 WPM to 50 WPM. The 25 WPM was from the CD interview, I would have picked something with loads of 3 syllable+ words :). All I need to do is keep it consistently middle ground and I should do ok.

I've got to leave for my interview in a bit and I'm seriously freaking over it. It's my first interview in over a year (I know it's only with the agency but still) and I feel extremely out of practice. I really needthis job so hopefully all will go well. I hope.

Eeeps! Got an interview with an agency tomorrow (I'm putting my lack of faith in agencies on hold just this once) for an office junior job in Nottingham. 10k a year? Yes please! Only problem is my typing speed, I think I can do what they want (around 40 wpm), I'm just a little rusty. So here comes my test typing.....
I put my hands into the roaring flames. I felt the pain as it started to burn. I've done the same thing over and over again as if I never ever wanted to learn. Moving through the world at obsession speed, leave a dust trail crossing the land. I'm crying out in fury to the gods of fate. Come on and get me if you can.
66 words in just over a minute and a half, not too shabby. And I'll give my last rolo to whoever can tell me what the song is and who it's by (despite the fact that I've probably got it all mixed up, I think it's right but not sure), WITHOUT looking it up.
Right, must go practice some more.

Am feeling vaguely better now, a gallon of tea and an hours kip can do wonders for your hangover. Vague memories of last night seem to be coming back, I think my drunken state may have come from the Irish Channels me and Rob where downing (that stuff is always harsh, 4 shots in one drink has got to be a recipe for disaster). I also remember getting laid (good for 2 reasons, 1. I can actually remember getting laid and 2. it was with someone I wanted to sleep with), with one of Rob's artboy friends from uni, V. good, cute artboys are always a bonus.
Now if only I could get my thoughts to stay in one place I'd be sorted.
